Species epithet: of Uppsala, where the bacterium was first described at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

||Small pinpoint like colonies, which are non-hemolytic and swarm on moist agar.|

||About 40 species have been described within in the genus Campylobacter and some of these are further divided into subspecies. This genus is closely related to the following genera: Sulfurospirillum, Arcobacter and Helcobacter. C. upsaliensis is closely related to C. helveticus and C. avium.|
In Sweden, human campylobacteriosis is notifiable to the Public Health Agency of Sweden.

The taxonomic category phylum was previously not regulated by the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (ICNP), but now this has changed and it was decided to revise the names of bacterial phyla. Species within the family Chlamydiaceae were previously divided into two genera Chlamydia and Chlamydophila. However, the differences between these two genera were not that great and many research groups have not accepted this division.
